Concert Bands (Co-Curricular Daily Classes)

3rd Block Symphonic Wind Ensemble

4th Block Concert Band

For all Band students in grades 10-12:  This ensemble will present multiple concerts throughout the year, performing concert band literature in grades III - VI.  The SWE has a history of outstanding musicianship, including past performances at the Tennessee Music Education State Convention and receiving the "Award of Distinction" multiple times for Superior ratings in every category from every judge at Concert Performance Assessment (CPA).

For all Band students in grade 9:  This ensemble will present multiple concerts throughout the year, performing concert band literature in grades II - IV.  The Concert Band (sometimes called the 9th Grade Band) has received Superior ratings at Concert Performance Assessment nearly every year over the past three decades, often performing in the Grade 4 classification along with many grade 9-12 bands from other schools in the region.  Occasionally students in grades 10-12 that encounter a scheduling conflict with 3rd Block will be placed in the 4th Block Concert Band for the affected semester.

Many students in the HHS Band classes have been selected for All-County, Mid-State, and All-State Honor Bands through the years, continuing an annual tradition of being among the highest performing Band programs in the middle Tennessee area.

Marching Band of Gold (Extra-Curricular)

Fall Semester:

After-School Rehearsals

The Band of Gold is a competitive marching band made up of wind musicians, percussionists, and color guard. Students perform at halftime of all varsity football games and entertain the crowd before and during the game. The BOG also performs at marching competitions and exhibitions throughout the area, as well as at parades and other community events.  Rehearsals begin in the summer months to be fully prepared by the time that school begins . Members must also pay a band fee. Schedules will be available well in advance of all activities, and positions of Band Leadership, Color Guard, and Percussion members are determined by auditions in April and May prior to the Fall competitive season.

Students must be enrolled in daily Band classes for the prior Spring and concurrent Fall semesters in order to participate in the marching Band of Gold (unless given prior approval from the Band Directors).

Jazz Bands (Extra-Curricular)

Late Fall and Spring Semesters:  After School Rehearsals

The HHS Jazz Bands have a long tradition of excellence in Jazz performance for over 3 decades.  Participation is open to all students that play traditional jazz instruments, but placement (specific part and ensemble) is determined by auditions late in the Fall semester each year.  In years where student instrumentation is sufficient to do so, there will be two jazz bands (typically named for the time slot in which they rehearse).  The HHS Jazz Bands will perform in school concerts, regional festivals, and other public venues.  Many HHS jazz students have been selected for Mid-state and All-State Jazz Honor Bands through the years, often placing the highest number of students from any Middle Tennessee school.

Orchestra (Co-Curricular Daily Classes)

4th Block Orchestra

The Hendersonville High School Orchestra focuses on furthering the abilities of students in grades 9-12 who have prior experience on string instruments with an emphasis on technique, music history, and theory. Students have school-related performances throughout the year and are strongly encouraged to audition for honor ensembles such as Mid-State and All-State Orchestra and to prepare music for the Solo and Ensemble festival.
